Some Notes on Raiding
This text copied from http://www.twentypercentsober.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=113
Let me state this at the very beginning: we are not a raiding guild, and we are not fascists when it comes to guild management. If you didn't know that by now then you obviously haven't been paying attention.
Here we go: 1/ Teamspeak Everyone who enters Naxx (or anywhere else) in a raid needs to have Teamspeak installed. EVEN IF YOU DON’T SPEAK, you need to be able to hear when someone yells ‘Bonzo, move to the left side now!’ or whatever.
We realise that some players may have trouble with English, which is the predominant language in our guild. That’s fine, and we don’t expect you to chat or to engage in conversation with us all the time. However, in the middle of a hectic fight there’s no time to type out these commands. Lord alone knows how guilds handled this sort of thing before voice chat services… So please try to install Teamspeak if you plan to raid with the guild – a polite request that we won’t enforce, but it will definitely make life easier for everyone.
TS can be downloaded here: http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads (downloading the client only will do, I’d guess)
So essentially, Teamspeak is a must for raiding.
2/ Start times and breaks As I said before, we’re not policing the guild, because we are a family friendly, casual bunch of people who play for the enjoyment of it. However, not being able to complete a wing in an evening because someone didn’t arrive for the set starting time can be frustrating for everyone. If you have signed up for a raid, please try to be there on time. We will attempt to make it very clear in message of the day or in the calendar exactly what time we’re gathering and starting – and hopefully we can sort out the difference between UK time and server time to allow everyone to start together. If you need to go afk in an emergency, don’t wait! Create a macro that yells out something to everyone, and that you can hit if the pizza delivery arrives, phone rings, baby falls out of bed or whatever. A very simple one to just stick on a bar somewhere: /raid GOING AFK URGENTLY, SORRY - BRB!
Done. As for normal breaks, just let everyone know in raid chat if you need a bio after a fight (boss or trash or whatever) – people may not always hear you on TS if you say so. And typing /afk may help too in this case. We have tried (unsuccessfully) to set up a raid calendar recently, but we will work on getting this sorted out so that people can sign up for hardcore (i.e. planned) raids, either guild-only 10 mans, or else for joining up with Rigor Mortis for a 25 man run. We realise this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so just sign up to raids you want to join in on. We will of course still run OS/VOA/Naxx on an ‘as and when’ basis if we have enough people online who are interested on any random evening. 3/ Looting Even though you could grab an item from every boss in every wing in one run (unlikely but it could happen I guess), it doesn’t mean you should roll need on everything. The idea is to get all guildies kitted out in the best gear, so we’ll run the raids again and again until most people have decent gear – you should be able to build up a decent stash. Again, we won’t police this, but just something to bear in mind. If you already have an epic wand and another epic wand drops, then passing on it so that another clothie with a lowbie wand can roll would make that person very happy. A quick ‘inspect’ of other people who can use the gear should tell you what you need to know. It has always been considered impolite (and annoying) to loot while fighting. While this often happens by mistake when trying to hit something and clicking a dead loot mob, continually doing it on purpose could cause a few people to get grumpy. And that’s it, the Twenty Percent Sober guild rules for raiding. If you look at what other guilds expect, I think we’re pretty flexible and easy going actually. Obviously you can add comments or suggestions to this thread. - Fool and the Gang
